Xu Ming joined Future Cities Laboratory of Singapore-ETH Centre in 2016 after completing his PhD in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, National University of Singapore. He holds a B.Eng. degree majoring in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He is currently working as computational scientist for the Cooler Calmer Singapore project to build up a high resolution 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics model to simulate urban heat island in Singapore, and an integrated system to couple with building models, air conditioner models, traffic models and vegetation models. 

His research focuses mainly on numerical modelling of fluid circulation, volume transport, pollutant transport and sediment transport, with techniques of parallel computing on High Performance Computers, model nesting and coupling.
