Dr SREEPATHI Bhargava Krishna
Main content
Research fellow of Multi-scale Energy Systems (MuSES) for Low Carbon Cities
Bhargava completed his doctoral studies in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). During this time, he was developing optimisation algorithms and applying them in the field of energy conservation. In particular, heat exchanger network retrofitting was his focus, as it involved an energy-intensive area in many process industries.
After graduation, he worked as a Research Fellow in the Department of Building at NUS. Here he first worked on an industrial project with JTC Singapore, in which the focus was on improving the efficiency of the HVAC system of the building. As part of the project, he also developed a tool to generate the optimal piping layout in the building to improve the chiller efficiency.
He then worked on a project sponsored by the NUS President, where the focus was on developing a ‘smart’ solution in line with Singapore’s Smart Nation policy. This involved deployment of devices on-field and based on the observations develop energy policies that enables NUS to benefit from significant savings in utilities. This involved the study of user behavioural patterns and embedding them into the development of energy policies. During his period at NUS, he mentored over 20 Bachelor and Master’s students in their dissertation work.
Research
In MuSES, Bhargava will be working on developing an Agile Optimisation module for the City Energy Analyst toolbox. This involves an approach to tackle output uncertainty in District Energy Systems (DES) performance for variable time horizons and progressive changes in urbanisation processes and energy policy. DES consist of thermal and electrical supply systems that integrate renewables, waste heat, sinks of heat and distribution technologies. Designing a DES for variable time-horizons involves a high degree of uncertainty and this module hopes to address this issue
