Selen Ercan

Project Coordinator and Researcher of Mobile Robotic Tiling

Selen Ercan (MSc.ir.Arch.) received her B.Arch. at Middle East Technical University (METU). Following her graduation, she got accepted to the international joint M.Sc. program on Computational Design and Fabrication Technologies in Architecture offered by METU and Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). She has conducted her master thesis study on "Mass Customizing the Relations of Design Constraints for Designer-Built Computational Models". Selen has worked on the “In - Situ Robotic Fabrication” project dimRob (ECHORD - European Clearing House for Open Robotics Development, within the 7th Framework Programme) at the Chair of Architecture and Digital Fabrication (Prof. Fabio Gramazio and Prof. Matthias Kohler) at ETH Zürich from 09/2011 to 09/2012. Currently she works as a research assistant at the SEC-FCL Singapore / Modul II, Chair for Architecture and Digital Fabrication (Prof. Fabio Gramazio and Prof. Matthias Kohler), Architecture Department, ETH Zurich.

Research

From 04/2011 to 02/2013 Selen collaborated in different projects at the Chair of Architecture and Digital Fabrication (Prof. Fabio Gramazio, Prof. Matthias Kohler) at ETH Zurich including TailorCrete (Industrial Technologies for Tailor-Made Concrete Structures) and dimRob (In-Situ Robotic Fabrication). In dimRob she has focused on mobile robotic fabrication of complex building elements on construction sites. She has assisted the elective thesis Spatial Aggregations 4 for the robotic cutting and assembly sequence of custom-length timber elements. Her research focus is mainly 1:1 scale robotic fabrication of building elements on site.
