Researcher of Tourism and Cultural Heritage

Berit Seidel is an assistant at the Chair for the History of Art and Architecture, GTA Institute, and a Researcher in Tourism and Cultural Heritage: A Case Study on the Explorer Franz Junghuhn. She is a member of U5, a Zurich-based artist collective from Austria, Germany and Switzerland, founded in 2007. The collective graduated from Zurich University of the Arts in 2011. U5 took part in numerous group exhibitions in Switzerland, Germany, UAE and Italy. The collective‘s work was also exhibited in several solo shows, including Kunstmuseum Thun (CH, 2014) and Kunsthalle Arbon (CH, 2014). The artist collective U5 works with a wide range of media: colored plastic shapes combined to form model-like structures and sculptures, while exuberant architectural constructions oscillate between the natural and the artificial. Video works and live stream images, which are in a constant process of becoming, overlay the physical work. These layers come together as installations that originate in the fascination for various materials. U5 practices different forms of collaboration that challenge the tradition of individual authorship.
